What Causes Plaque Formation—Big Issue

Abstract: people are more concerned about the reasons resulting the plaque formation. As the shanghai dental said, the factors that can lead to the formation of plaque includes bacterium, dental, and sugars.

As the dramatically increasing number of problems of dental plague, people are more concerned about the reasons resulting the plaque formation.

As the shanghai dental said, the factors that can lead to the formation of plaque includes bacterium, dental, and sugars. In other words, these three factors are indispensable for the whole process of the plaque formation. For example, without bacteria, it can not be called plaque; and it is impossible to form a film-like material without sugar. Similarly, it also can not be called plaque without teeth.

To begin with, we talk about the bacterium. There are many kinds of bacterium in the dental plaque, such as the cocci, the bacilli, the filamentous fungi and other bacterium. In these bacteria, the bacterium initially adhered to the acquired membrane is the cocci and the actinomycetes, especially, for instance the hemolytic streptococcus and the actinomyces viscosus. Because the hemolytic streptococci has a greater affinity for hydroxyapatite and the actinomyces viscosus also adheres to the acquired film in the early period.

Both the actinomycetes bacteria and the cocci have the ability to adhere to the acquired film at the very first, and then also can make other bacteria gather to the acquired film, so in the plaque we can check cocci, actinomyces, filamentous bacteria, and so on.

To prevent the formation of plaque, we should aim at the first attached bacteria on the teeth, to prevent its earlier adhesion to the acquired film. .

Besides, another factor is sugar. Sugar is the essential nutrients for the bacterial growth, reproduction, and metabolism. Sugar accounts for about form 13% to 18% in dental plaque. The sugar in plaque is metabolized by bacteria. The metabolic of plaque produces large amounts of organic acids that decreases the plaque alkalinity, and increases the acidity. The increasing of the acidity of the plaque will lead to the tooth surface enamel decalcification and cause decay. Therefore, sugar is one of the factors of dental caries. The sugar in plaque comes from food. Some studies have shown that, after a few minutes eating sugar, the plaque acidity increased rapidly. This study shows a close relationship between sugar and decay—— the more sugar, the more tooth decay. The dentists from ismile suggested that ,the solution to this problem is to brush your teeth and gargle after eating sugar, to control the sugar type and the eating time. After eating sugar we have to brush or mouthwash our teeth. The best time to brush your teeth is not more than five minutes after a meal.

The third factor is the tooth. The problems, such as teeth malalignment, teeth shift, non-correct position, can cause food impaction, to change the organizational structure of the teeth with the role of oral bacteria, for which, the most common cause is tooth decay.

After understanding the causes of plaque formation, we can take some measures to prevent the formation of plaque and keep teeth healthy, as the shanghai dental has suggested.
